Not all of the animals we saw in Asia were still alive unfortunately, or barely alive... At least this part of life is not hidden in Asia, like it often is in the West. With the exception of India it was't always easy for us vegetarians... Luckily this was compensated with some amazing wildlife and of course cows and water buffaloes everywhere...
Whether you can relate to Buddhism or not, the serenity of the Buddhist temples will stay with you. Talking to monks gave us interesting insights. If you want to see all varieties of Buddhist temples all over the world in one place, head to Lumbini in Nepal, the birth place of Buddha, where all Buddhist countries are represented with a temple.
A complex religion, but a very vivid and fascinating one. We couldn't get enough of observing the rituals, the architecture, the pilgrims and festivals. All very colourful, so perfect for photography.
Kids in Asia just make your day. They are curious and usually have an extensive English vocubalary, even in the smallest villages. They often became our guides and gave us insight into their worlds. Especially at homestays they will be your biggest friends. These pictures show kids from all different Asian countries we visited.

Hostels in Asia hardly ever have a kitchen where visitors can cook their own meal. Nevertheless, it is really a must to visit the local markets. Great food and lots to see. Be early, because by 9am many of the products are sold out. Our favorite was the colourful market of Dông Văn in North Vietnam.
When looking through our photo's of the people we met, we dig up a unique story every time. People connected us to their friends and families and this often determined our next destination. Homestays are a great way to go as is speaking some words of the local language.
We saw many sunsets in Indonesia and Thailand, but for the best sunsets head to Mongolia. In the Mongolian countryside there is nothing that distracts you from staring at the immense wide views all day long. At sunset the dust spreads in the air when the horses play. Breathtaking!
