Life along the Mekong, Cambodia – May 2013

Thanks to some good tips from a hostel owner and other travellers we had the time of our lives along the Mekong. The homestay where we ended up staying had the first TV of the village, so it was the place to be for all the kids around. We went to a local wedding and saw the critically endangered Irrawaddy dolphins. We biked parts of the Mekong Discovery Trail hopping from island to island and canoed through the flood forests.

Angkor Wat – May 2013

Angkor Wat is best explored by bicycle. Our favorite moment was to experience sunrise at the Bayon temple. One by one the carved faces of the 54 towers of this temple caught the sunlight. And we were all by ourselves besides a lonely dog and a monk... The other memorable activity was to cycle for 65 long and sweaty kilometers to Beng Melea Temple. Besides discovering the Indiana Jones feeling in you when climbing this temple, the way there is fascinating crossing the villages and ricefields surrounding Siem Reap.
